1964 Ford Mustang

1964 Ford Mustang Convertible

The first generation Ford Mustang was launched in the US on April 17, 1964.

It combined it sporty looks, economy, and performance in a package that had an affordable price tag.

The Mustang had enough options that you could have it as an economy car to a luxury sports car.

The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobiles which consist of sports-car like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks.

It gave rise to competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro, and Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, as well as Chrysler's improved Plymouth Barracuda and the first generation Dodge Challenger.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The Dodge Challenger has come into the world in three completely different generations.

The first generation Challenger was a pony car produced from 1970-1974.

The second generation ranged from 1978-1983 and was a badge engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda.

The third, current generation came about in 2008 and was produced to compete against the Mustang and the Camaro, two legendary muscle cars that had started the pony car era.

The current generation Challenger is built on the Charger/Chrysler 300C platform and features rear-wheel drive and an independent rear suspension.

Officially the Dodge Challenger SRT is the only Chrysler Group model confirmed to receive the Hellcat under its bonnet.
